In the quaint town of Essex, Connecticut, nestled amidst the charm of the historic landscapes of the Connecticut River Valley, a vision blossomed in 2020. Not amidst the blooming flowers, but within the walls of a newly established optometry practice – Wild Apple Eye Care. Named after the street he grew up on, Wild Apple Eye Care was established by Dr. Nick Paradis, a passionate optometrist with a heart for community. Wild Apple Eye Care wasn’t just about providing eye care, but about empowering families to thrive together, seeing clearly every step of the way.

Partnered with the father-son duo of Mark and Dan Denegre, the local opticians of Essex Vision Center, Wild Apple Eye Care embodied a philosophy of personalized care. Dr. Paradis, alongside his dedicated team, which included his wife Christina, the Practice Administrator, and his mom, Cathy, the Office Manager, ensured each patient received a unique experience. They took the time to understand individual needs, concerns, and lifestyles, crafting personalized care plans that went beyond prescriptions. Whether it was recommending the perfect frames to compliment someone’s personality or patiently explaining complex diagnoses, every interaction was infused with empathy and a genuine desire to improve lives.
In 2022, another seed in the garden of possibilities sprouted. Dr. Paradis, also an associate at Colchester Eye Care and Hebron Eye Care, was approached by Dr. Thomas Dempsey, owner of both of these long-established practices, with a proposal. Dr. Dempsey was preparing to take a step back from ownership and return his attention to seeing patients full time, and was looking for a local optometrist with a philosophy similar to his own to take over ownership of both practices. Dr. Paradis leapt at the opportunity to add two more community-beloved practices into the Wild Apple family.
Now with three locations in Essex, Colchester, and Hebron, Wild Apple Eye Care has flourished, its story woven into the lives of countless community members. They have witnessed children’s first eye exams, ignited confidence with perfectly chosen glasses, and provided peace of mind to those facing eye challenges. More than just optometrists, they’ve become trusted neighbors, friends, and visionaries, ensuring that the clarity of sight goes hand-in-hand with the warmth of community.
